In 2003 Stephanie Crabe graduated from New York City's School of Visual Arts earning her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree after studying Photography and Film there for 4 years. After graduation she continued her ongoing project of photographic narrative fiction titled MOTEL BIZARRE. She displayed many prints from the collection in art galleries in Philadelphia, Detroit, Baltimore, New York City, and Caracas. The work eventually took the form of a photographic book, a collection of photographs shot in narrative style depicting the lives and lifestyles of transient peoples living “on the edge” within the walls of seedy yet stylish mid-century modern style motels in North America. The book MOTEL BIZARRE was published in 2007 and is still available today through online retailers like Amazon and Etsy or you can purchase a signed copy from Stephanie herself by clicking HERE!
Stephanie Crabe now goes by her married name, Stephanie Petersen. She works both out of her Photo studio located in Bayonne, New Jersey as well as on location. The Stephanie Petersen Photo Studio is a fun boutique style photography studio that's open by appointment only. She specializes in portraits of babies, kids, grown-up's, pets... Even Santa Claus has been known to pay the studio a visit around the holidays!
Stephanie often works with a team of Stylists like Fashion/Makeup Artist Krista Dresbach of KD Chic to create flawless, beautifully styled, fun, colorful, images. She enjoys working closely with clients helping them create images that bring their creative vision to life. Below, Stephanie worked on location at Otto's Shrunken Head in NYC to shoot promotional photographs for the Velveteen Lounge Kitschen!
Inspired by an ad posted by the Little BOHO Bookshop looking for recreations of favorite book covers, Stephanie dressed her two sons up, and had a real fun time recreating Georgie from Steven King's IT, Alex & Dim from Anthony Burgess's A Clockwork Orange, a zombie child from George Romero's Night of the Living Dead, & Travis Bickle from Paul Schrader's Taxi Driver!
Stephanie Petersen loves to participate in art shows and create art. Recently, she teamed up with the Bridge Art Gallery & The Inside Out Project. She set up a outdoor studio and photographed over 400 people on the street and in the park in her hometown of Bayonne, New Jersey and helped create the Faces of Bayonne Public Art Project
Now, as in the past, Stephanie Petersen continues to create unique images in her studio and on location. If you are interested in hiring Stephanie or if you want to keep up with what's going on in the studio you can follow Stephanie Petersen on facebook, instagram, pinterest, or send her an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
